Elewana Elsa’s Private House

Elsa’s Private House in Meru is a stylish, exclusive hideaway set slightly apart from the lodge Elsa’s Kopje, and built very near to George Adamson’s original camp site in the heart of Meru National Park in Kenya. The lodge is named after the orphaned lioness reared by George and Joy Adamson and then released into the wild, and on whom the film “Born Free” was based. Children of all ages are welcome.

Accommodation & Facilities
The private house at Elsa’s has one double and one twin room, both with en-suite bathrooms. It is possible to request two additional single beds and still be comfortable thereby sleeping a total of six. There is a spacious living and dining area, leading outside to a private swimming pool. Guests can choose to eat meals in the privacy of the house or in the main dining area of Elsa’s Kopje lodge.  The pool is child friendly but children must be accompanied by their parents at all times.

Eating & Sleeping
Children can have separate meal times an the chef is happy to discuss the children’s preference on your arrival and provide accordingly. Specific dietary requirements can be accommodated with prior notice.  Babysitting is available upon request.

Wildlife & Activities
Whilst staying at Elsa’s Private House, wildlife drives through the park offer guests the chance to see lion, leopard, elephant, buffalo, black and white rhino, and a myriad of birdlife. Meru National Park is home to a 84km² rhino sanctuary, with over 70 black and while rhinos resident, making Meru one of the best areas in Kenya to see rhinos in their natural habitat. For bird lovers, Meru offers over 450 recorded species. Fishing in the rivers, short walks on Mughwango Hill, excursions to Kora National Park, or rafting on the Tana River are other enjoyable activities available.

Specifically for children …
● Camp and Mughwango Hill bush walks with family friendly guides who are great with children (age restrictions for children under 12 years for Mughwango Hill walks).
● Visit to local school and community projects supported by Land & Life foundation.
● Fishing in the Tana or Rojewero rivers (catfish, tilapia and barbell). Fishing rods and tackle are provided.
