Hemingways Watamu

Hemingways Watamu is set in a beautiful cove on a five mile stretch of sandy beach at Watamu near Malindi in Kenya. The hotel overlooks the beach and the headland of the cove.

Accommodation & Facilities
The 39 comfortable and well appointed rooms and 21 apartments at Hemingways Watamu have great views of the Indian Ocean and are within yards of the beach. All rooms have en-suite bathrooms, fans and air conditioning. The hotel also has two pools, a spa and gym, a bar and a formal restaurant; trousers and collared shirts are required here in the evenings.

The 19 two-bedroomed apartments have a master bedroom with an en-suite bathroom and a twin bedroom with an adjoining bathroom as well as interior and exterior lounging and dining space and a fully equipped modern kitchen. There are two four-bedroomed apartments for bigger families or groups of friends.

Eating & Sleeping
The hotel runs a special children’s dinner in the early evening should parents wish this, or an early meal can be arranged for the whole family if the family would like to eat together.

Babysitting (payable locally) can be arranged in the family’s room/apartment, or children can entertain themselves in the playroom near the dining room while their parents eat.

Activities
Watamu is the oldest Marine Park in East Africa and is one of the finest in Kenya. There is excellent scuba diving, windsurfing, sailing and big game fishing here. The tidal creek close to the hotel offers good bird watching and fishing, and is a lovely spot for sunset dhow trips.  For the more energetic there are also floodlit tennis courts and a gym.  Malindi and its markets are within easy reach of Hemingways for those guests wishing to explore the area a little further.

Specifically for children …
During the summer and Christmas school holidays the hotel has a kids’ club with organised activities open between 11am and 6pm.
