The Highlands

The Highlands is a small smart safari camp set into the edge of a forest on the slopes of the Olmoti Volcano, more than 2,700 metres up in the highlands north of the Ngorongoro Crater. It is perfectly positioned to take advantage of Tanzania’s most famous wildlife location and for exploring the spectacular mountain scenery of the Crater Highlands.

Accommodation & Facilities
The camp has eight domed suites with insulated canvas walls and floor to ceiling perspex windows offering excellent protection from the cold and cloudy weather sometimes encountered at such altitudes. The rooms all have views of Olmoti and the Rift Valley to the north, and the plains of the Serengeti can often be seen far away to the west. The rooms have en-suite bathrooms and a wood burning stove for cold nights. The main building of the camp has a bar, lounge, dining room, and library, and wood burning stoves to keep guests warm. The camp also has a spa and sauna offering guests relaxation and pampering.

Wildlife & Activities
The Ngorongoro Crater has a massive population of wildlife, and lion, elephant, buffalo, hippo, black rhino, zebra and hyena can often be seen. The Highlands offers full day drives into the Crater with a picnic lunch to enjoy seeing this amazing wildlife. Walks on the extinct volcanoes, in the dense forests and across the extensive moor land are on offer, as well as visits to local Maasai communities and hiking down a crater to a soda lake which is home to flamingos.
