Hog Hollow

Hog Hollow is a small lodge on the Garden Route about a 20 minute drive outside Plettenberg Bay. It is in a private nature reserve and looks across a valley with indigenous forest to the Tsitsikamma Mountains beyond. Children of all ages are welcome.

Accommodation & Facilities
The 16 suites have en-suite facilities and individual private decks overlooking the forest vistas. King size beds, earthy tones, fireplaces, hammocks and hand crafted artefacts are just a few of the features.  The rooms used for families are double storey with a master bedroom upstairs with a private balcony and en-suite bathroom for parents. Downstairs in the lounge there is a double sleeper couch and an ottoman which is slightly shorter than a single bed.  These are made up in the evening for the children and bathroom facilities are shared with the parents. There is no television in the room, but a toy box is provided. These suites accommodate a maximum of two children aged 12 and under sharing with their parents. Children get a special turndown each evening of a hand baked gingerbread man and a glass of warm (or cold) milk or hot chocolate. There is a pool and a bar and restaurant in the main house.

The lodge is set on the edge of a gorge so if steep areas or balconies are a concern for parents then Hog Hollow might not suit.

Eating & Sleeping
Dinner is served at 7.30pm and families eat together on a family table. There is also the option for children to eat earlier and this can be pre-arranged with the chef. There is a children’s menu including favourites such as spaghetti bolognaise, chicken and chips and ice cream. Children sharing accommodation with their parents receive a complimentary children’s dinner each evening. There is a playroom in the main house next to one dining area and if parents prefer not to have babysitters, then parents can dine in this area, so the children can dine earlier, then play while parents eat.  Alternatively baby sitting is charged on an hourly rate which is currently R75 per hour.

Wildlife & Activities
There are many walks locally as well as bikes and horse rides. There are excellent beaches nearby and sea-side activities can be arranged as well as the adrenalin adventures such as black water tubing, bungy jumping and paragliding which this area is becoming famous for. There are buckets, spades, boogy boards and beach towels and umbrellas all available to borrow for a day on the beach and the kitchen is happy to provide a picnic.
