Ibo Island Lodge

Ibo is a unique and historical island located in the beautiful Quirimbas Archipelago in northern Mozambique.  Not your usual beach add-on, Ibo is steeped in history for it was once an important trading port for slaves and ivory.  Ibo Island Lodge offers guests a unique cultural experience in one of the last undiscovered places in Africa.  Ibo is quite unlike anywhere else. It is a peaceful and calm island untouched by mainstream commercial developments.

Accommodation & Facilities
The privately owned lodge is situated on a prime waterfront site and comprises three magnificent mansions, each one over a hundred years old.  Accommodation is split between two of these lovely villas, while the public areas ‘ restaurant, pool and main garden ‘ are housed in the third.  Each of the nine ensuite bedrooms is individually designed with period antiques, with many opening onto private verandas, and decked with hand crafted furniture and soft cushions covered in vibrant local fabrics.  Meals are home cooked and feature freshly grown vegetables, herbs and fruits and combine traditional specialities with local seafood. Breakfast and dinner tend to be served on the rooftop terrace with its stunning views out over the sea and the perfect spot to watch the sun set, while lunches tend to be under a shady tree in the well maintained garden.

Wildlife & Activities
During a typical stay at Ibo Island Lodge, guests will have the opportunity to join historical and village tours – wander with expert guides through the wide eerie streets, become immersed in the unchanged, ancient culture, buy locally made delicate silver jewellery and have the chance to interact with the wonderfully hospitable islanders.  For guests wanting a little activity the lodge can also arrange excursions to a stunning white sand island for beach picnics and swimming, nature walks, mangrove kayaking, day and multi day dhow sailing trips, snorkelling and scuba diving.
