Jamala Madikwe

As its name suggests, Jamala Madikwe is in the malaria free Madikwe Private Game Reserve in the remote north west of South Africa. The lodge has a perfect position under a canopy of ancient leadwood trees overlooking a clearing in the bush with a waterhole at its centre.

Accommodation & Facilities
With just five magnificent villas, Jamala caters for up to ten guests in palatial style. The villas all have excellent views to the waterhole, with wrap around decks and windows which all fold back to give a completely open feel. Each villa has a huge bedroom, a large bathroom with inside and outside showers and a bath tub, along with a dressing room and a luxurious lounge. Outside on the deck are sun loungers and a plunge pool, ideal for cooling off in the heat of summer. The villas are decorated with beautiful photographs taken by the owners of the lodge, along with some superb wildlife paintings. The furniture is of a very high quality and great aesthetic appeal. The main lodge can also be completely opened to the bush at its front, or alternatively closed for cooler mornings and evenings in the winter months. It has a large dining room, a very sociable lounge, and a beautifully fitted out library, as well as a huge external deck for watching wildlife at the waterhole. The lodge is equipped with a lovely spa, as well as a gym.

Wildlife & Activities

Jamala Madikwe is a superb base for enjoying exceptional wildlife viewing in this prolific reserve, with black and white rhino, lion, buffalo, wild dog, elephant, and cheetah often seen. Leopard are more elusive but still seen, and Madikwe is also one of the best places in South Africa to find large herds of plains wildlife. Giraffe, zebra, wildebeest, kudu and impala are among those regularly encountered. Jamala offers excellent game drives, and also claims to be the best place for a ‘sofa safari’, in which you watch great wildlife from the luxury of the lodge.
