Kaskazi Horse Safaris

Kaskazi Horse Safaris is a privately owned horseback safari company operating in northern Tanzania.  Based on the outskirts of Arusha Town the area lies at an altitude of 1,400 metres, offering an ideal climate for horses and riding.  The stables have a magnificent view of Mount Meru with Mount Kilimanjaro visible on a clear day.  Day rides take place from the stables, while on a mobile safari the horses are trucked to the particular location being explored.

The Riding
The horses are a mix of local breeds and thoroughbreds.  Most are ridden in western style with just one or two ridden English style.   They are beautifully trained and the range of different temperaments means there will be a horse to suit most riders.  The different rides require different levels of experience.  Beginners must be able to walk and trot, intermediates need to be comfortable at all paces, and experienced riders will need to be confident and comfortable at all paces over any terrain.   Guests can expect to spend between five and seven hours in the saddle, with stops for drinks and a long lunch break and siesta.  Among the mobile riding safaris on offer is a Serengeti Migration Ride, a Natron Flamingo Ride and a Kilimanjaro Elephant Ride.  It is also possible to arrange a tailor made itinerary.  Day rides of around two hours, and catering for all abilities are available from the base close to Arusha.

Accommodation & Facilities
Accommodation on a mobile riding safari is under canvas.  The 3 x 3 metre tents are comfortable and spacious, each with a mosquito netted door, two beds, cotton linen and a solar light.  Outside is a chair and wash stand.  There is a short drop bush loo and bucket shower for every tent.  The first night is spent at a lodge situated on a golf, polo, and wildlife estate, only 40 minutes’ drive from Kilimanjaro international airport. Each room has its own en-suite bathroom and access to the lovely swimming pool. Yoga, spa treatments, golf and polo can be arranged prior to arrival.
