Kwandwe Fort House

The Fort House is an exclusive private villa perched on a hill top in the Kwandwe Private Game Reserve in the malaria free Eastern Cape region of South Africa. With excellent views of the nearby waterhole and the vast expanse of surrounding wilderness, the Fort House offers a peaceful safari retreat for a family of eight or a group of friends in this 54,000 acre reserve.  Children of all ages welcome.

Accommodation & Facilities
Built in a smart contemporary style, Kwandwe Fort House has four luxurious air conditioned en-suite bedrooms, with huge bathrooms that have inside and outside showers as well as baths. The house has a large open plan entertainment and living area and an interactive kitchen where the private chef prepares meals according to guests’ wishes. Outside, there are large well maintained lawns and a lovely heated pool with a safety net available on request. The pool is one level and there is a step that kids can play on. There is a large terrace where meals can be eaten. The property is fenced which makes it perfect for children of all ages. A dedicated team look after guests and the house, with impeccable levels of service.  There is Wi-Fi throughout, with additional back-up satellite internet connection, ideal for families wanting to stay connected.

Eating & Sleeping
Children can have separate meal times and a children’s menu is available with fun mealtime favourites such as fish cakes with veggies and homemade chips; vegetable soup and freshly baked bread; DIY pizzas with fun toppings and fresh fruit salad. Specific dietary requirements can be accommodated with prior notice.  Child-minders are available with prior arrangement at no additional cost. All child-minders are first-aid trained.

Wildlife & Activities

Kwandwe has excellent wildlife which includes elephant, lion, buffalo, white and black rhino, leopard, black wildebeest, red hartebeest, giraffe, zebra, aardwolf, aardvark and cheetah, and fabulous birdlife too. Guests staying at the Fort House have the benefit of a private guide and vehicle, which allows flexibility with activities that include day and night game drives and walking safaris. Specialist walking safaris can also be arranged, searching for large animals such as elephant and buffalo with a specialised guide and tracker, subject to the availability of the guiding team.

Specifically for children …
• Kwandwe runs a ‘families Eco-Nect’ programme. On offer are age appropriate games and activities such as kite building, scavenger hunts (incorporated into game drives), making fire with sticks, art activities, treasure hunts and conservation programmes.
• Outdoor play areas include large lawns for children to run around. Cricket sets, baseball, rugby, and footballs are all available.
• Lounge offers TV with a library of DVD’s and games. All bedrooms have satellite TV.
