Kwihala Camp

Located on the Mwagusi Sand River facing a dramatic escarpment and waterfall, Kwihala is a luxury tented camp set in the untouched wilderness of Ruaha National Park. Famous for its excellent guiding, in a wildlife rich area with dense populations of big cats, buffalo and elephants, the wildlife viewing is exceptional. Children from five years are welcome although adult supervision is required at all times.

Accommodation & Facilities
The camp combines adventure and style; the canvas tents are designed for those who would like to be that little bit closer to the wildlife and the excitement of Africa, but who still crave the creature comforts usually associated with luxury lodges. The six spacious tents can be made up in twins, doubles or triples and are furnished with comfortable king-size wooden beds, en-suite bathrooms with safari bucket showers and flushing toilets. There is also electricity generated by solar power. Kwihala does not have a family tent so parents and children need to be divided between tents accordingly. A third child’s bed can be added to a tent if required.
The main area has a tented lounge and dining room where meals are shared either under canvas or in the alfresco dining area beside the campfire.

Eating & Sleeping
The chefs are happy to prepare children’s food at times to suit and will discuss children’s dietary preferences with parents on arrival. If there are any specific dietary requests, please advise prior to travel.
There is no formal childcare provision but should parents wish to dine later than their children a guard can be posted outside the children’s tent.

Wildlife & Activities
Kwihala is a permanent camp and is perfectly positioned within the main wildlife area of Ruaha. Day and night wildlife drives through fantastic scenery allow excellent viewing away from the crowds. Guests can arrange bush breakfast and lunches to make the most of their time in the park. Night drives and guided walking safaris are available for the majority of the season. Ruaha also offers hot air balloon safaris from 15th June – 31st October – booking in advance is advisable. Hot air ballooning has a minimum age restriction of seven years and above.

Specifically for children …

Children will be given an activity pack on arrival which is filled with toys and games to keep them entertained both in camp and out on safari.  Although Kwihala warmly welcomes children from five years, the camp does not offer specific activities for children.  That said, the guides are adept at keeping children engaged in the bush and finding exciting, fun activities to suit all attention spans.  The library is extensive and is the perfect place for children to delve into the lives of their favourite animals or follow up on the birds they have spotted.  Families of six or more are guaranteed a private safari vehicle at no extra cost but we advise all family guests to consider booking a private vehicle so the safari is 100% on your terms and suit your family.
