Lakaz Chamarel

Lakaz Chamarel sits 400 metres up in the forested hills in the south-west of the tropical island of Mauritius. Surrounded by the Chamarel Mountains, the Black River Gorge National Park and lush, spacious gardens, Lakaz Chamarel enjoys a stunning location and is one of only a few Mauritius hotels not on the beach.

Accommodation & Facilities
Lakaz Chamarel is small and owner run which gives it plenty of atmosphere and a huge amount of charm. It is an eco-lodge and the owners take a great pride in minimising the ecological footprint. There are 20 rooms in several categories spread throughout the gorgeous tropical gardens. The garden pool and sea view suites have private plunge pools and every room has a wonderful outdoor shower, a fan, an iPod dock and WiFi. There are two communal pools which have been treated with black river salt to keep them clean and safe for swimming. The library has a wide selection of books and board games which guests are encouraged to make use of. The bar and dining room are also set among the gardens and offer delicious a la carte food.

Wildlife & Activities  
Lakaz Chamaral offers an ideal base from which to enjoy extensive walking in the Black River Gorge National Park, as well as excellent bird watching. You can also borrow bicycles to explore the surrounding area, visiting the rum distillery, the coloured earth (an extraordinary geological formation) and a beautiful waterfall. There is a fantastic beach just a 10 minute drive away and complimentary shuttles run every day. Guests are also offered complimentary yoga sessions every morning.
