Lake Manze

Lake Manze Tented Camp has a lovely location on the banks of Lake Manze in Nyerere National Park (formerly Selous Game Reserve), part of the largest protected area in Africa. Set in a grove of wild date and borassus palms in between two parts of the lake, a cool breeze is ever present. The camp is deliberately rustic with a strong sense of wilderness. Children from six years are welcome.

Accommodation & Facilities
Lake Manze is a simple, authentic safari camp, and comprises 12 Meru style walk in tents carefully placed under the shade of acacia trees. The tents are spacious and have an en-suite outdoor bathroom with a flush loo and a shower, and a private veranda from which there are great views of the lake and visiting animals. Whilst the tents don’t have electricity, solar powered fans, lanterns and torches are provided. The tents are well spaced around the extensive camp area with the lodge and dining area in the central section.

Families are accommodated by adding tent annexes to the veranda of the standard tents. The tents closest to the main area are favoured by families and this configuration is ideal for a family of four. A maximum of three single children’s beds can be added – two in the annex and one in the main tent sleeping a maximum of five, although this is a little crowded.

Eating & Sleeping
The chefs are happy to prepare children’s food at times to suit and will discuss children’s dietary preferences with parents on arrival. If there are any specific dietary requests, please advise prior to travel.

There is no formal childcare provision but should parents wish to dine later than their children a guard can be posted outside the children’s tent.

Wildlife & Activities
Guests have the choice of wildlife drives, boating or walking safaris, as well as fishing. Boating safaris on Lake Manze are a great way to see the large numbers of hippo and crocodile in the lake. The wildlife that is regularly seen on drives includes hyena, lion and elephant. Walking safaris (permitted for those over the age of 16 years) allow you to get much closer to nature, tracking animals and taking in the sights and smells of Africa.

Specifically for children …
Although Lake Manze camp warmly welcomes children from six years, there are no specific activities for children. That said, the guides are dedicated to giving young guests the best experience possible by providing variety and adjusting activities to suit attention spans.  Children particularly enjoy the interactive activities such as fishing and boating.
