Mara Plains

Set in the 35,000 acre private Olare Motorogi Conservancy, on the northern boundary of the Masai Mara National Reserve, Mara Plains Camp is ideally placed for superb game viewing. The camp sits on the edge of Ntiakatek River with views of the surrounding plains and under the cooling canopy of the riverine forest. Children of eight years and older are welcome at Mara Plains Camp.

Accommodation & Facilities
Mara Plains has just six tents on raised wooden decks, each offering spacious accommodation with an en-suite bathroom, flush loo, a shower and a deep copper freestanding bath. For families, the Jahazi Suite is one huge tent with two en-suite bedrooms, and its own private staff and safari vehicle.   The camp is centred around open-air mess tents connected together in a pod concept. There are two sitting rooms, one with a small library and writing area. Breakfast and dinners, when not being enjoyed under the stars, are taken in the main dining room around the large wooden table and under a magnificent chandelier.

Eating & Sleeping
Mealtimes are flexible and guests can decide when they wish to dine. Please be aware that children must be accompanied when dining. Chefs are very used to catering to children of all ages and dietary needs. Children are offered standard meals or the chefs can tailor make meals/menu for the children’s needs. Specific dietary requirements can be accommodated with prior warning. Mara Plains is a remote safari camp with high levels of animal contact. Parents are responsible for the supervision of children at all times.

Wildlife & Activities
Mara Plains Camp offers unrivalled wildlife viewing opportunities in the Mara North and Olare Motorogi Conservancies as well as the Masai Mara National Reserve. The camp’s safari vehicles have been specially designed for photographers and have multi-plug inverters and photographic bars.  Expert guides convey their enthusiasm for the local culture, wildlife and environment exceptionally well.  Activities on offer at Mara Plains include day and night wildlife drives, walking safaris, cultural visits to Masai communities and hot air ballooning (this must be booked in advance for an extra cost). Each guest tent comes equipped with a pair of Swarovski binoculars, a professional Canon camera set, including a Canon 7D camera body and Canon 100-400mm and 24-70mm lenses and photographic tuition is available on request.
