Marataba Safari Lodge
Marataba Safari Lodge is located on a private area within the Marakele National Park at the foot of the Waterberg Mountains and welcomes children of all ages.
Accommodation & Facilities
The 15 suites at Marataba Safari Lodge, of which seven are designated for families, are an interesting combination of canvas and stone and have been individually designed to give an elegant and contemporary feel. Each tent has an en-suite bathroom with indoor and outdoor showers, oversized stone bathtub, air-conditioning and ceiling fan. Additional beds for children up to 12 years old and cots for under two year olds are available as required in the family tents, each of which can sleep a maximum of four people. All of the tents enjoy beautiful views over the plains and river to the mountains beyond from the private decks. Lodge facilities are completed by a large lounge with fireplace and comfortable sofas, library, bar, dining area and a child friendly swimming pool with shallow end sloping to the deep end.
Eating & Sleeping
Children can have separate meal times at times to suit and have the option of eating at the kid’s centre or in the main lodge with their parents. A children’s menu is available and typical dishes include spaghetti bolognaise, burgers, fresh fish, meatballs, seasonal fruit & vegetables. Babysitting is carried out by the friendly housekeepers in the mornings and afternoons and the kid’s centre is available during the day to keep the children interested and safe. Babysitting can be arranged at a small extra cost.
Wildlife & Activities
Marakele National Park is itself is a ‘Big 5’ Game reserve where it is possible to see rhino, elephant, lion, buffalo and leopard. Activities include morning and afternoon/evening game drives and walks. Spa treatments can also be arranged at an extra cost, as can an afternoon boat trip on one of the reserves small lakes.
Specifically for children ….
• A brand new children’s centre including a pond for water play and a sand pit has been built to keep children occupied throughout the day. Activities include:
• Spray\blow painting.
• Stick building.
• Cookie baking.
• Straw weaving.
• Water games.
• Marshmallow stargazing.
