Mweya Safari Lodge

Mweya Safari Lodge sits on top of a hill in the Queen Elizabeth National Park (QENP) in the west of Uganda overlooking Lake Edward at the point the Kazinga channel exits the lake. With the Rwenzori Mountains to the north and the border with the Congo across the lake to the west, it is a stunning setting. The national park close to the lodge has open savannah dotted with acacia and euphorbia, making game spotting relatively easy particularly on the network of tracks to the north of the main east-west road through the park. In addition to large numbers of elephant and buffalo, there are many antelope including Ugandan kob, defassa waterbuck and bushbuck. Predators such as lion and leopard are spotted regularly and a total of twenty different predators are found in the park.

Accommodation & Facilities
The camp’s accommodation is in 54 terraced rooms, with en-suite facilities. There is a main building with bar, restaurant and lounge as well as a large swimming pool and surrounding sun deck. The rooms, the main area and the pool at Mweya all overlook sections of the lake or channel. There is also a health club that offers a variety of exercise classes as well as massages, steam baths and a sauna. There are internet facilities available in the business centre.

Wildlife & Activities
As well as game drives, boat cruises along the Kazinga Channel are also possible on flat bottomed launches. A further game-viewing choice is a visit to Kyambura Gorge which forms the border between the QENP and the Kyambura Wildlife Reserve to its east. Here you have the chance to trek in the 16km long, 100m deep gorge to see chimpanzees, black and white colobus monkeys and red-tailed monkeys.
