Okahirongo River Camp

Okahirongo River Camp is tucked far into the north western reaches of Namibia, in the Marienfluss region.  This remote wilderness area is bordered in the west by the Skeleton Coast National Park and the Kunene River to the north. It’s a spectacular landscape dotted with mysterious fairy circles, round patches in a sea of grass otherwise devoid of vegetation. On a cultural level this is the home range of the Himba people, one of the last semi-nomadic desert-dwelling tribes to grace the continent.

Accommodation & Facilities
Okahirongo River Camp is an eco-friendly lodge built on a sweeping ridge on the banks of the Kunene River. The six luxurious en-suite tents are cleverly built into the rocky terrain and are constructed out of wood and canvas, each with a magnificent view over the river and surrounding area. The interiors have been decorated in a minimalist fashion and are furnished with four-poster beds, splendid indoor and outdoor showers and spacious decks. The central area is set above the rapids and comprises two lounges, a library and dining room. There is a swimming pool and adjacent sundeck which is the perfect place to relax and enjoy the natural surroundings.

Wildlife & Activities
The spectacular desert scenery surrounding Okahirongo River Lodge is inhabited only by the Ovahimba people and when there are villages in the area, guests staying at the lodge can learn about the relatively untouched lifestyle and traditions of these nomadic tribespeople. Other activities include 4×4 nature drives to explore the surrounding area of golden sand dunes and rugged mountains, as well as boat trips, fishing, birding and guided walks.
