Old Mondoro
Old Mondoro is a small traditional bush camp set in a grove of acacia trees on the banks of the Zambezi River in the Lower Zambezi National Park, near the Chakwenga River confluence. It is a beautiful site overlooking a maze of hippo-inhabited islands and channels. Children 12 years and above are welcome. Younger children are welcome on a discretionary basis, particularly if the camp is booked on an exclusive basis.
Accommodation & Facilities
Accommodating only 10 guests at any time, Old Mondoro’s six rooms are constructed of reed and canvas, screened against insects, each with a shaded deck overlooking the Zambezi. There is a family chalet with two interconnecting rooms and en-suite bathrooms. The rooms each have one king size or two single beds, electric reading lamps and a 220v power point for charging cameras, en-suite flush loo and washbasin, 24/7 hot and cold water, outdoor shower and bath with views of the Zambezi. Though the camp has an open adventurous feel, it provides a more than comfortable retreat after a day filled with excitement in the bush. A traditional bush kitchen supplies outstanding meals and fresh bread baked daily from a homemade oven.
Eating & Sleeping
Meal times can be flexible and the chef can accommodate children’s favourite meals including pasta, hamburgers, hot dogs, roasted marshmallows by the fire. A complimentary listening service can be provided by a member of staff.
