Pafuri Camp
Pafuri is a tented safari camp situated in the northern section of the Kruger National Park between the Limpopo and the Luvuvhu Rivers, in a 26,500 hectare area called the Pafuri triangle or the Makuleke Concession. Children of all ages are welcome.
Accommodation & Facilities
Accommodation consists of 19 large tented rooms, each with en-suite bathrooms. The rooms are spread well apart and all look out over the Luvuvhu River. There are seven family tents that sleep up to four people. The tents comprise two rooms separated by heavy curtains but connected via a shared bathroom. There is a small seating area on the front deck consisting of a bench and two chairs. The main bedroom is at the front, with shared bathroom behind and walking through the curtain at the back of the bathroom takes you to the children’s room with two ¾ beds. An additional smaller camping bed can be placed in between these two beds, or in the main bedroom of the tent.
The main camp area, which includes a swimming pool (with shallow end and steps), a bar and dining area, is located in the middle of the camp.
Eating & Sleeping
Children can eat earlier than parents. Game drives typically return between 18:30 and 19:30 depending on season and sightings and kids can eat immediately after returning or if they do not go out on an afternoon drive, dinner can be arranged earlier for them. For maximum flexibility it is recommended that families book a private vehicle. The chefs are happy to prepare any foods that children enjoy (e.g. hamburgers, chicken strips, etc.) and will discuss children’s dietary preferences with parents on arrival. If there are any specific dietary requests, please advise prior to travel. Babysitting is available at Pafuri Camp and is provided by the housekeeper and is paid directly to the housekeeper at a rate of approx R180 per child per sitting.
Wildlife & Activities
This area is famous for the large herds of elephant and buffalo that are resident most of the year round. Whilst staying at Pafuri guests can enjoy both day and night game drives in open 4 x 4 vehicles as well as walks.
Specifically for children …
The guides are seasoned in looking after kids and the housekeeping staff all have children of their own. Children from the age of six years can go on game drives (if a private vehicle is booked, children of all ages can enjoy game drives). Walking safaris are possible for children aged 16 and over.
