Ras Kutani – now closed

A short flight south from Dar Es Salaam on the coast of Tanzania’s mainland, Ras Kutani has been the perfect spot for many of our guests to unwind for a few days. The beach is pristine and almost deserted and the rolling sea warm and brilliant blue. Children from six years are welcome at Ras Kutani.

Accommodation & Facilities
Ras Kutani is a small property with comfortable spacious rooms all overlooking the sea or lagoon. Each of the nine thatched cottages has its own en-suite facilities and hammocks on the verandah. The four hillside suites are elevated and each has its own private plunge pool. There is also a family suite.  The spacious bar, dining room and sitting area provides a lovely space to relax and enjoy the sea views whilst having a drink or meal.

The Hill House family suite consists of two rooms next to each other with a big veranda furnished with couches and hammocks overlooking the ocean. On request, one bed can be added in one of the rooms to allow a maximum capacity of two adults and three children although the additional bed naturally makes this bedroom less spacious.  The cottages are a good option for families with older children. These are set 10 metres apart and can accommodate an extra bed if required.

The pools are not heated. They have steps to enter and a slight slope towards the end of the pool, but as they are not specifically ‘child-friendly’ supervision is needed.

Eating & Sleeping
Children can have separate meals at times to suit. The chef is happy to discuss the children’s preference on arrival and provide accordingly. For any specific dietary requests please advise in advance.

There is no formal childcare service but the spa therapist is happy to provide babysitting when available. There is no set fee but a tip is normal etiquette and always appreciated.

Activities
Snorkelling from the beach and kayaking can be arranged (dependant on tides), or why not try a forest walk around the lodge and lagoon great for spotting birds, butterflies and monkeys. The lagoon, situated behind the lodge, can also be explored by rowing boat or canoe. For those wishing to relax, there is a small spa and a lovely swimming pool with decked area and relaxation area. The use of technology is restricted in public areas to encourage total relaxation and a refreshing break from the screens.

Specifically for children …
• Beach games including rackets, football, volleyball, ball games, frisbees are available as are snorkels and boogie boards.
• Visit to local village.
• Kayaking (accompanied by a parent).
