Rusinga Island

Rusinga Island is an imaginatively designed small luxurious lodge on the shores of the Lake Victoria. The lodge offers excellent standards of comfort and personal service. The thatched cottages and traditional tents are surrounded by lawn and ancient trees, home to the magnificent fish eagle whose call is a sound that will stay with you forever.

Accommodation & Facilities
The six thatched cottages and one family cottage are spread throughout the pretty gardens.  Constructed from local materials they blend beautifully into the surroundings.  Each cottage has a spacious bedroom with a living room and dressing area, and a verandah overlooking the gardens and lake beyond.  The family cottage comprises one double and one twin room.   Delicious meals are served al fresco, in the gardens, by the pool or on the jetty and generally make use of home-grown ingredients.  Public facilities include a central mess tent and swimming pool.

Wildlife & Activities
Fishing for monster Nile perch (up to 200 lbs!) and tilapia are the main activities on the Lake, but the bird watching is also superb. Other activities include water skiing, windsurfing, visiting nearby fishing villages and exploring this remote and beautiful lake. The lakeside location and water sports make this a wonderful location for children. The nearby Ruma National Park is a gem, one of the least visited National Parks of Kenya and home to the rare oribi and Bohor`s reedbuck with the last remaining population of roan antelope in Kenya. Rusinga Island is also the site of the discovery of the Proconsul skull by the famous Leakey family in 1947 and visits can be easily arranged to the dig site.
