Sand Rivers Selous
Sand Rivers Selous is a truly outstanding camp situated on an outcrop of rock, providing stunning views over the Rufiji River in Tanzania’s Nyerere National Park (formerly Selous Game Reserve), part of the largest protected area in Africa. The reserve has very few camps, all miles apart. Children from eight years are welcome.
Accommodation & Facilities
The camp has five spacious, open-fronted riverside stone and thatch cottages and three hillside suites. Each cottage has an en-suite, river facing bathroom, with a flush toilet and a powerful shower. The hillside suites have their own private plunge pool and lounge. The family room comprises a master bedroom with king size bed and a children’s annexe connected via a raised, covered walkway. For smaller families an extra bed can be added to the cottages and hillside suites. There is a large communal area with a dining room and bar. Set just up from the riverbank is a swimming pool in the shade of an ancient baobab tree.
Eating & Sleeping
For maximum flexibility families are encouraged to book a private vehicle in which case children can have separate meals at times to suit. The chef is happy to discuss the children’s preference on arrival and provide accordingly. There is a children’s menu featuring nursery favourites such as cauliflower cheese, pizza, sausages and mash etc. For any specific dietary requests please advise in advance.
There are no formal childcare facilities available so parents must be responsible for their children at all times.
Wildlife & Activities
Guests can choose from walking safaris, boat trips, fishing or wildlife drives in an open vehicle. There is also the opportunity to book fly camping in advance. As well as large numbers of predators, prey and birds in the area, the opportunity to see wild dog is a particular highlight of this area.
