Serengeti Under Canvas

Serengeti Under Canvas in Tanzania is a fabulous semi-permanent camp that changes location throughout the seasons to follow the great wildebeest and zebra migration that criss crosses this magnificent landscape. Set only on private campgrounds, the camp gives you an outstanding, undisturbed base from which to watch this spectacular journey. Children from six years are welcomed.

Accommodation & Facilities
Serengeti Under Canvas has nine luxurious tents with en-suite facilities including huge bucket showers and flush loos. Each tent has a spacious verandah and sala to the front, a mini bar and a safe.   The family tent comprises two tents; a standard tented suite and a small second tent in close proximity and joined together by a secure enclosed walkway. Each tent has its own sitting area at the front, and an en-suite bathroom and double outdoor hot bucket showers. The family tent can accommodate a maximum of two adults and three children (the third child on a special request basis). Please
note that the camp is unfenced and as such children are required to be accompanied by an adult at all times.

Communal parts of the camp include dining areas, lounge and library all in spacious comfortable tents. Pieces of furniture have been carefully selected to complement the local cultures and environment.

Eating & Sleeping
The chefs are flexible and can accommodate separate meal times where possible and provide child friendly meals.  Specific dietary requirements can be accommodated with prior notice. If parents would like to dine later than their children, a listening service can be arranged whereby a guard is posted outside the children’s tent and will alert parents if the children wake.

Wildlife & Activities
Game drives to view the spectacular migration are the main activity, with half or full day drives available with Serengeti Under Canvas’ excellent guides. Picnics can be arranged as can balloon safaris in certain locations (the latter at an additional cost and minimum age limits apply).

Specifically for children
All the guides recieve training in guiding children and are taught how to keep children engaged. Activities are planned on arrival in camp according to ages and interests.  Children aged six to 11 can participate in regular game drives at the camp manager’s discretion. Alternatively a private vehicle can be booked, allowing the drives to be tailored to suit the ages of the children (subject to availability and at an additional cost). If paying for a private vehicle, children of any age may go on a game drive with access to sightings being at the discretion of the guide based on the behaviour of both child and wildlife.

Children visiting the camp can take advantage of the fun-filled and interactive WILDChild programme which offers various activities such as:
• Tracking animal footprints with a guide
• Joining a mouth-watering pizza party
• Traditional bead work
• Making a fire the Masai way
• Playing volleyball with the staff
• Spear throwing or shooting bows and arrows
