Tanda Tula Field Camp

Tanda Tula Field Camp is a simple low impact seasonal tented camp in the Timbavati Private Game Reserve. An exclusive use camp, the site is chosen for each safari according to game movements and the time of year, and the tents will be set up just before guests arrive. Once they depart the camp is dismantled, leaving no trace of its existence in its 16,000 acre private concession. Children from ten years are welcome.

Accommodation & Facilities
Operating between the beginning of March and the end of October, this exclusive use camp has a maximum of four East African Meru style tents for up to eight guests. Guests are looked after by a private guide and tracker, private chef and assistant, housekeeper, butler, and two camp hands. The camp is set up from scratch for each booking and can be configured according to the group or family’s needs. The tents have twin beds, plenty of storage space, and private open air bathrooms with hot bucket showers and an eco loo. Children under the age of 14 years must share with an adult so parents and children are divided accordingly. The camp has a mess tent which offers space for dining and relaxing, and lighting throughout the camp is provided by solar lanterns and oil lamps.

Eating & Sleeping
As it’s an exclusive use camp, meal and activity times are flexible. There isn’t a children’s menu as such but adult meals are adapted to suit and according to children’s preferences.  Specific dietary requests can be accommodated with prior notice.  The dining area can be set up close to the guest’s tent, so that if children want to go to bed early, parents can hear them and vice versa.

The Field Camps are completely unfenced and animals are able to move freely through the camp during the day and night so parents need to be responsible for the supervision of their children at all times.

Wildlife & Activities
Walking safaris are the focus of safari activities at Tanda Tula Field Camp, and the guides are chosen for their years of experience and matchless skill. Walks can be up to 10 miles in length, and are tailored to guests’ interests. The wildlife in the concession includes rhino, elephant, lion, and buffalo, and it is perfectly possible, even on foot, to spot the ‘Big Five’, though the camp also has vehicles for more conventional wildlife drives.

Specifically for children …
Activities are planned with the family and will be discussed with the guides on arrival into camp. Children aged ten years and above are permitted on all wildlife drives. Children aged 14 years and above can accompany parents on bush walks.
