Vakona Lodge

Vakona Lodge is an impressive family run property situated in the heart of Madagascar’s Andasibe (Perinet) Forest, ideally located close to Mantadia National park and a three hour drive to the east of the capital Antananarivo. Children of all ages are welcome.

Accommodation & Facilities
The 28 bungalows are spread around the garden and all feature en-suite bathrooms, safe, mosquito nets, a mini-bar and a verandah with views of the forest. Ten of the bungalows are suitable for families with a maximum capacity of four adults and one extra bed if the fifth person is a child. There are also three triple bungalows suitable for a family of three. Baby cots are available. The main area has a restaurant with a central open fireplace, a games room with table tennis and TV and there is also a swimming pool for the warmer summer months (Sept – April). Children need to be supervised by their parents at all times around the pool.

Eating & Sleeping
A children’s menu is available but parents are recommended to order in advance and give as much advance warning as possible. On request, room staff can look after children on the terrace or in the playground while their parents are dining or take care of the kids while parents do an activity.

Wildlife & Activities
While staying at Vakona Lodge guests can explore the nearby Andasibe (Perinet) and Mantadia National Parks. Accompanied by your driver and a local guide you can explore these famous reserves on foot, both by night and day, at your own pace. Andasibe National Park is renowned for its variety of diurnal and nocturnal species, and is probably best known for the Indri Indri – the largest member of the lemur family whose eerie call can be heard through the thick canopy of the rainforest at first light. Horse riding and canoeing are also offered.

Specifically for children ….
Children can ride (supervised by an adult) and take a guided canoe tour around the island.  The lodge also has a playground.
