Our partnership with professional photographic experts allows us to put together tailored photography trips in Africa, whether you want to perfect your skills with a ‘point and shoot’ or develop prowess with high-end professional cameras. We can answer your questions relating to equipment, photographic style, tuition and preparing for your safari, as well as advising on the right destinations and seasons to travel according to the animals you wish to photograph, whether it be mountain gorillas in Rwanda or elephants in Botswana.
Techniques range hugely and discovering your own trademark style makes photography on safari so exciting. The big cats are the focus of many a budding photographer, but to produce the real story of your safari you need to learn to capture birds in flight, African sunsets, running zebras, wide-angle elephants, giraffe sunset silhouettes, family fun and even the African night sky.
The ability to share photos through social media has revolutionized the way we communicate in the 21st Century. There are so many exciting ways to publish your safari pictures, whether on Instagram or to create professional standard coffee table books online. Knowing that so many people can view your magnificent images only adds to the excitement of wildlife photography. With specialist advice at our fingertips, we can help you capture Africa in a whole new light.
A number of lodges offer specialist photographic safari holidays where photographic tutors are resident in camp. View this video of a typical photographic safari holiday with tutor and photographer, Andrew Aveley, at Jaci’s Safari Lodge, South Africa.
Consider booking a private vehicle, it’ll give you the flexibility you might not get if sharing with non-photographers.
A boat will provide a different angle for taking wildlife images and particularly good for close up shots of bird life, hippo and elephant.
Some camps have photographic hides, these present incredible opportunities for the photographer to sit hidden, in perfect view of the wildlife.
While having a knowledgeable photographic guide is essential on a specialist photographic safari, it’s also possible to travel with a professional photographer throughout your safari, and to receive tuition and guidance on equipment and techniques prior to your departure.
Different seasons offer different opportunities. During the green, or rainy seasons, you will find magnificent colours and wonderful light; high season will often provide spectacular predator and prey action. We can advise on the best times of travel to capture your particular wish list.

We have visited virtually all of the Southern African countries either as a couple or with our two boys. Alice and the team at Aardvark are truly exceptional at putting together the perfect bespoke package be it ultra luxury or totally remote and low impact. We travel extensively and for virtually everywhere I put my own tours together but not Africa where you need real local knowledge to get the right blend of wildlife, accommodation and security

A fantastic trip, brilliantly organised by Jo at Aardvark. 4 locations across 2 countries, the itinerary worked really well with lots of variety, and the logisics worked like clockwork. The service from the agents on the ground was great.

We had a superb safari holiday with Aardvark Safaris, which was very competently organised, we were well looked after throughout. Both lodges, Kicheche Valley Camp in the Masai Mara Conservancy, and Lewa House in Laikipia, were fantastic stays, with friendly, competent, welcoming Staff, very knowledgeable guides, great food, lovely tents/lodges.

My journey through Botswana and Zambia was one of the most extraordinary experiences of my life, filled with unforgettable moments, breathtaking scenery, fascinating wildlife, meaningful cultural encounters, and adventures that constantly reminded me how incredible the world truly is. From watching hundreds of wildebeest stretch across the horizon and seeing lions, elephants, cheetahs, leopards, wild dogs, giraffes, hippos, and the rare brown hyena in their natural habitats to riding safari vehicles through deep water, sleeping beneath the stars on the Ntwetwe Pan, flying over the Okavango Delta in a helicopter, fishing on the Zambezi River, and experiencing the immense power of Victoria Falls, I enjoyed every moment. My favorite experience was meeting the San people because learning about their traditions, history, connection with nature, music, language, and way of life gave me a completely different perspective on happiness and what truly matters in life. Throughout the journey, I found myself slowing down and appreciating things I often overlook, from a beautiful sunrise or sunset to a quiet breeze in a hammock, a conversation with someone from another part of the world, or simply watching animals live freely in their natural environment. I had never experienced nature on such a magnificent scale, and the vast landscapes of Africa taught me that life is not a race and that taking time to pause, recover, explore, and enjoy the world around me is just as important as working toward the future. I returned home with countless memories, a deeper appreciation for nature and different cultures, a greater understanding of the world, and a renewed sense of excitement about life and everything still ahead of me.

I have now had the pleasure of three trips booked through Aardvark Safaris (Kenya/Seychelles, Maldives, and SA/Zambia/Malawi/Botswana) and every time they have been absolutely brilliant.
They always take time to understand what you are looking for so they can tailor their trips to suit your family. We have done this through interactive Teams meetings that my son can be involved.
The camps we have stayed at have always been brilliant, well chosen and exactly the values and ethos we are looking for. The trips have always been perfectly planned and executed and the team are always available to answer queries.
I’d have no hesitation in recommending them. They have been recommended twice already to friends who have also had wonderful experiences.
We will be back in two years to go to Namibia and Zimbabwe and will absolutely be in touch again!
Thanks to Jo and Christine

We enjoyed another fantastic African adventure organised brilliantly by Aardvark Safaris. Robyn Wauchope was amazing, right from the first enquiry, with advice on where to travel in Tanzania from her experiences and we had the most incredible experience in Ikuka camp in Ruaha National park - what a place! We then had a lovely stay in Emerson Spice hotel in Stone Town which was a wonderfully decorated boutique hotel right in the centre with the most amazing roof top terrace for breakfast. We finished our trip with a relaxing time at Seacliff resort in Zanzibar which was perfect with the most beautiful sunsets. We cannot recommend Aardvark safaris enough - there were a few last minute flight cancellations and they sorted it all out giving us invaluable peace of mind! We are already planning our next trip! Thank you so much to Robyn and all the team at Aardvark - they know how to do Africa!

100% recommend Aardvark Safaris. Lucinda planned us our dream safari to South Africa followed by Mauritius. From the very first call to enquire about budgets and potential destinations, Lucinda listened to all of our requirements and totally understand what we wanted from this special trip. She tailor made an itinerary which allowed for rest days giving us several options for lodges and hotels in both destinations for different budgets. Once booked she was always available to answer any questions and offer advice. The holiday itself was simply superb, the hotels and lodges were all exceptional and the holiday ran so smoothly thanks to all the planning. This is a holiday which we will always remember, just amazing from start to finish.

Aardvark is a fantastic team of organized, friendly and professional travel experts with flawless communication, who listened to our wishes and needs and came up with great suggestions adding to the adventurous spirit my daughter and I had in mind when we decided to travel to Botswana. We were met by a great network of local experts to insure an unforgettable African holiday. Highly recommend the mobile safari, it allows for the full immersion experience. Our guide was knowledgeable and entertaining, the food delicious and the animal spotting amazing. Best trip ever!

We had a fantastic time. The Staff at Aardvark Safaris were very helpful. We stayed at Speke camp in the Masai Mara and Safari Cottages in Ol Pejeta. Both places were fantastic and everyone took excellent care of us. We have made many wonderful memories that will last us a lifetime.

This was a trip of lifetime for my family and created wonderful memories. I had no idea what to expect but Aardvark Safaris exceeded all expectations with their careful organisation and eye to detail from the very minute we landed in Kenya to the site chosen for our safari and then onward to Malindi and our departure from Kenya.
Lucinda and team were always on hand to answer the various questions we had prior to the trip.
We then spent time on the east coast in Malindi talking about our experience and reminiscing about what we saw and the wonderful people we met.
Incredible!!
