Holidays to dream of – Island hopping in Seychelles
A thousand miles east of Africa’s mainland lies the Seychelles, a cluster of tiny, remote islands far out in the Indian Ocean. Blessed with some of the most beautiful beaches in the world, the archipelago’s 115 or so islands are strung over 300 miles of turquoise sea.

A mix of flat coral and mountainous granite, the Seychelles’ islands are categorised as ‘inner’ and ‘outer’ based on the distance from the main island Mahe, and offer the perfect opportunity for an idyllic island hopping holiday.

The most developed islands, Mahe and neighbouring Praslin, are home to a wonderful selection of places to stay ranging from simple bed and breakfast to elegant resorts. There’s something to suit every budget and with a whole bunch of activities including golf, water sports, and superb diving and snorkelling, you are spoilt for choice. Among our favourite picks here are Lemuria and Raffles. If you wanted something a little different then Le Domaine de L’Orangeraie on the charming island of La Digue – car free and home to Anse Severe which is frequently quoted as one of the world’s top 10 beaches – is worth a look.

The outer islands tend to be characterised by charming private island hideaways set on powdery white beaches where barefoot luxury is the order of the day. With the likes of North Island at the uber luxury end of the scale and Bird Island more a rustic, remote island safari camp, there is a huge amount of variety. What you will find everywhere are shimmering sand beaches fringed with swaying palm trees. Romantics will love Fregate and Denis Islands, active types and fishermen will find Alphonse irresistible while families will find plenty on offer at the Four Seasons Desroches Island.

Regular inter-island flights makes it very easy to hop from one to another. In fact, if you have time, we’d highly recommend you do spread your time between a couple of locations so you can soak up the different feel and landscapes.
