Chem Chem Lodge
On the eastern edge of Lake Manyara lies a place of unending loveliness. Here is Chem Chem Lodge, ‘the sunset camp’, luxurious without being lavish. This exclusive retreat sits on its own private concession in the wildlife corridor between Lake Manyara and wildlife-rich Tarangire National Park. Children from six years are welcome.
Accommodation & Facilities
There are seven tented suites at Chem Chem Lodge. The family suite comprises a main tent with king size bed with en-suite facilities together with a separate annex twin bed tent with its own en-suite bathroom; the two are joined by a short section of boardwalk. An additional roll away bed can be added to either room. The thatched main area houses the bar and lounge, as well as a dining room, library and upstairs look out. Outside there is also a pool and spa for ultimate relaxation.
Eating & Sleeping
The chefs are happy to prepare any foods that children enjoy (e.g. chicken gougons, pasta, sausages etc.) at mealtimes to suit and will discuss children’s dietary preferences with parents on arrival. If there are any specific dietary requests, please advise prior to travel.
There are no formal childcare facilities so parents must be responsible for children at all times.
Wildlife & Activities
The lodge overlooks a waterhole, the only nearby source of water during the dry seasons, which provides excellent viewing of species such as giraffe and zebra from the main building and many of the tents. Chem Chem Lodge is an excellent spot for walking safaris and shorter game drives as well as visits to the eastern lakeshore of Lake Manyara. Also on offer are trips into Tarangire National Park or to a nearby Maasai village.
Specifically for children …
• Learn age-old survival techniques from the Masai warriors including identifying bush food, learning how to make a fire, spear, bow and arrow.
• Try your hand at spear throwing.
• During a cultural visit to the Masai village, learn how to make your own bracelet.
• Decorate safari themed biscuits.
• Visit the local school, meet new friends or join in a game of football.
