Kichaka Zumbua

Kichaka Zumbua is an owner-run tented camp on top of a remote ridge in the eastern corner of Tanzania’s vast Ruaha National Park. The camp blends into the rocky backdrop overlooking the valley of the Great Ruaha River.

Accommodation and Facilities
Kichaka Zumbua has three beautifully designed safari tents positioned on raised bases and covered with large thatched roofs. The canvas sides can be completely opened to let Africa in during the day and closed for the night. The tents have en-suite bathrooms with baths and outside showers, shady verandahs, and private plunge pools on the terraces. The camp has a lovely central lodge with a dining room, bar and lounge, all with views across the river and Ruaha itself. The is also a rooftop top Star-Bar, and a shared pool.

Wildlife and Activities
Wildlife viewing with Kichaka is generally outstanding year-round, as Moli (Andrew Molinaro, the owner) has an encyclopedic knowledge of the bush. Walking safaris are the main activity at Kichaka, although day and night wildlife drives are also offered if they are feasible. Ruaha sits on the divide between eastern and southern African biospheres and is renowned for its diversity of mammals, birds and trees. Elephant, lion, buffalo, cheetah, spotted hyena, eland, greater and lesser kudu, topi, giraffe, zebra, warthog, hippo, crocodile can all be seen along with, occasionally, rare species such as wild dog, sable and roan antelope, and Lichtenstein’s hartebeest. Ruaha also has a large number of baobabs, and a large diversity of magnificent tree specimens.
