Serian Camp

Serian Camp, meaning peaceful or serene in the Maa language of the Maasai people, is a small owner run camp situated along the side of a secluded valley flanking the Mara River. The adjacent area is teeming with wildlife and is excellent for both walking and vehicle based wildlife viewing. Children of all ages are welcome.

Accommodation & Facilities
Accommodation is in five large, airy and elegant tents set in the shade of  mature oleadendra and walburgia trees. Each tent has an en-suite open sided bush bathroom with a shower, large bush bathtub, a flush loo and spectacular views over the Mara River. The family tent comprises two large en-suite tents with an adjoining lounge area and large wrap around deck. The maximum occupancy is six.  The tents are all elegantly and stylishly furnished with African arts and have wooden decks outside, perfect for relaxing after game viewing activities. There is also a communal dining and sitting/reading area and indoor fireplace.

Eating & Sleeping
Serian is very flexible and with a private vehicle, families can dictate their day including activities, meals, bedtime etc. Private dining in the family tent is also possible. The chef is happy to discuss the children’s food preference on arrival  and provide accordingly. Specific dietary requirements can be accommodated with prior warning. A listening service is available (with prior notice) if parents would like to dine later than the children. A member of camp staff will sit outside the tent on the verandah or inside the tent with the child if preferred.

Wildlife & Activities
Activities on offer at Serian Camp include game drives with a private vehicle and guide, river fishing, guided bush walks and hikes to the Tree House, which can also be used for sleeping and eating under the stars.

Specifically for children …
Managers Adrian and Roisin have brought up their own daughter at Serian so they understand the needs of families and children. There are plenty of staff in camp who are happy to take the children off to do an activity to give the parents a break. The Serian guides and Masai spotters are all great with kids and very good at making safari activities interesting for children.
Activities include :
• River fishing including making up the rods.
• Masai bush skills including tracking, making bows & arrows, lighting fires etc.
• Beading with the ladies.
• Adventure fly camping.
