Solio Lodge

Solio Lodge is nestled in the valley between the dramatic slopes of Mount Kenya and the rolling peaks of the Aberdare Mountains, about 100 miles north of Nairobi. The lodge is the only one on the private 45,000 acre Solio Ranch, which is home to a diverse and numerous population of wildlife including both black and white rhino. Children of all ages are welcome at Solio Lodge.

Accommodation & Facilities
The lodge has just five individual cottages, each with an en-suite bathroom. The two bedroom family cottage is ideal for families who require the additional space and can comfortably accommodate five. Extra beds are available on request allowing all cottages to sleep up to four. The large picture windows take in the panoramic views of the landscape, framed by Mount Kenya. Each room has a private lounge area warmed by a corner fire. Solio is at a high altitude and can be cold at night, so the rooms are designed for warmth as well as outdoor living, with each having a deck in front for relaxation during the day.  The spacious green grounds give ample running around space for games and sports.

Eating & Sleeping
Children can eat at times to suit them and the chefs are happy to provide child friendly dishes such as chicken or fish goujons, cheesy mashed potato, beef or chicken skewers, stir-fry vegetables and rice, spaghetti and sauce, pizza and salad. Children can also choose their own selection of fruit and ice-cream from the kitchen. A complimentary listening service can be arranged up to seven days in advance and is provided by the security staff at the lodge.

Wildlife & Activities
Activities include horse riding, walking, mountain-biking, night and day wildlife drives and fishing trips to Mount Kenya and the Aberdare Mountains. Helicopter rides can be arranged and are a perfect way to see the diverse landscape that Kenya has to offer; it’s even possible to take a short trip to Mt Kenya for breakfast. Spa treatments are available in the comfort of guests’ rooms (paid for locally).

Specifically for children …
Solio Lodge employs friendly, enthusiastic staff who enjoy entertaining children and families alike. On arrival children receive a ‘Kids pack’ which includes games, activities and quizzes about the local wildlife and the camp.
An abundance of wildlife can be seen throughout the day, and not far from camp, making short game drives a perfect choice for families.
There are also a number of activities for children including:
• Ball games.
• Card games.
• Painting.
• Cooking in the Solio Kitchen with fresh ingredients collected from the kitchen garden.
• Horse riding and cycling is available for children over ten years old and safety equipment is provided.
