Sundy Praia

Sundy Praia has a beautiful beach front location in a forest of almond and banana trees, on the northern side of the tiny tropical island of Principe. Principe is one half of Sao Tome and Principe, a small equatorial island state off the coast of West Africa, out in the Atlantic Ocean.

Accommodation & Facilities

Sundy Praia is a luxurious lodge with 15 partly-tented villas, all with views of the sea. The villas are designed to resemble the dwellings of the fishing community that once lived here. They are air conditioned, have lovely en-suite bathrooms with a shower and a free-standing granite bath, a dressing area, and comfortable seating inside. Each villa has a shaded verandah with loungers and chairs. There are eight single bedroom villas, five with two bedrooms, and two family villas with three bedrooms and a private pool each. The lodge has a restaurant, a larger swimming pool, and a bar and a spa.

Wildlife & Activities

Principe is mostly forested, and is quite mountainous. The bird watching is excellent thanks to the variety of habitats, and the number of endemic species that can be seen. The beaches are beautiful, and the seas around the island are rich in life including turtle, whales and dolphins, and offer good diving, snorkelling, boat trips, beaches and fishing. There are numerous hiking trails on the island, and guests can take a guided tour of a cocoa plantation and the lodge’s own organic farm. The local people are very welcoming, and the villages are fun to visit too.
