Tumaren Camp

Tumaren Camp is a lovely tented camp with a super location on a 10,000-acre conservancy in the wild and beautiful Laikipia region of Kenya.  The camp was originally home to Kerry Glen and James Christian, owners of Karisia Walking Safaris, and it is the perfect base for exploring the Ewaso River basin and Laikipia Plateau. The camp looks west over a salt lick and waterhole on a wildlife-rich plain, that attracts much of Laikipia’s large wildlife.

Accommodation & Facilities
Tumaren has seven large safari tents with big comfy double beds, of which four have partitions for privacy and extra single beds for friends/family.  The tents have en-suite bathrooms with a flush loo, a shower and hot running water. The camp has a large main dining and bar tent and a cozy lounge. At the northern end, there is an extra dining room and sitting room for those wanting to eat alone. Tumaren Camp has a 20-metre swimming pool with a large pool house and bar.  Meals can be enjoyed here as well as in the other two dining rooms. Tumaren can be taken over on an exclusive basis, so whether you choose to fill all seven tents to the brim with friends or take just one and have a memorable getaway with family, there is plenty of space for everyone to relax and enjoy.

Wildlife & Activities
Tumaren’s resident wildlife includes beisa oryx, reticulated giraffe, eland, Grevy’s and common zebra, gerenuk, elephant, warthogs, dik diks, jackals, and impala. Lion, wild dog, and leopard are also sometimes seen.  Activities on offer at Tumaren include guided walks, camel riding, day and night wildlife drives, tracking wildlife, swimming in the pool and the river, beading, top-rope rock climbing, playing ultimate frisbee with the school kids, and visits to local Masai schools, markets and homesteads. Tumaren has superb local guides who all have intimate knowledge of the wildlife, their culture, and the region.
