Coral Lodge

Coral Lodge is a small, owner run property located within a privately-owned nature reserve called Varanda and is made up of mixed habitats including sand dunes, mangroves and white sand beaches. The lodge lies at the tip of the Varanda peninsula, with views out across the Indian Ocean and is only a short distance by boat from the UNESCO World Heritage City of Ilha do Mozambique, the former capital of Mozambique.

Accommodation & Facilities
The lodge is comprised of just 10 villas, with either ocean views or lagoon views out across the mangroves. The villas are very spacious, with a king size four poster bed, sofas and attractive palm wood furniture, all stylishly decorated in a contemporary design incorporating African and Arabian influences in keeping with the areas rich history. Each villa is ensuite with twin basins, a shower and a free standing bath. There is also a large private decking area to the front of each villa. Facilities at the lodge are completed by a communal lounge, bar and dining room with superb views of the surrounding area. There is also a stunning salt water infinity pool overlooking the ocean and mangrove channel. The meals are regularly fresh from the sea, with delicacies such as crayfish, crab and calamari.

Wildlife & Activities
Due to Coral Lodge’s unique location there are a great number and variety of activities on offer including snorkelling, scuba diving on both reefs and 17th century Portuguese shipwrecks, whale watching (seasonal), canoeing through the mangrove maze, learning to sail a local dhow, fishing from a dhow, windsurfing and excursions to Goa Island, as well as the opportunity to visit a local village to learn about the local Macua people or learning to cook a local Mozambican dish with the chef. Guests can also go on a fascinating guided tour of the nearby Ilha do Mozambique and wander around the 300 year old town built by the Portuguese and learn about the history of the area and Mozambique. For guests wanting a bit of down time there is also the pool to relax by, the white sand beach to enjoy, as well as the spa.
