Mvuu Camp

Mvuu Camp overlooks a broad stretch of the Shire River, in the picturesque heart of Liwonde National Park, to the south of Lake Malawi.  Although Liwonde is not renowned for its predators, hyena are often heard and there are large herds of antelope and plenty of elephant and hippos. There are also breeding programmes within a separate area of the national park specialising in black rhino, roan and eland, amongst others.

Accommodation & Facilities
The camp consists of a clever mix of seven stone and canvas chalets and five specially-designed two bedroom family tents. All rooms have en-suite bathroom facilities and flush loos.  The camp also offers camping and self-catering for self-drive guests.   There is an impressive thatched dining and lounge area which enjoys magnificent views of the river, and there is also a pool.

Wildlife & Activities
Activities offered from Mvuu Camp include day and night game drives in open vehicles, guided walks and also boat safaris. By boat you can explore the Shire River and lagoons providing excellent opportunities for sightings of elephants, hippo, crocodile and antelope. Birding is particularly rewarding – specialities include Lillian’s lovebird, brown breasted barbet, osprey, palmnut vulture, Pel’s fishing owl and Livingstone’s flycatcher.  There is also a black rhino reintroduction programme and it is possible (with special permission) to visit the rhino sanctuary in the park, which also contains Lichtenstein’s hartebeest and buffalo.
