Malawi is go!

Short break
Malawi is one of the friendliest places in Africa, where true African hospitality is at its very best.  If you are short of time, Lake Malawi is very ‘doable’ and you will find wide Malawi smiles meeting you at every turn, fresh home-grown, sun kissed food, and clear clean water for any number of watersports. Kaya Mawa is one of our favourite lodges and a perfect place to travel to alone, as a couple, or with a group of friends.

A week in Malawi
One of Malawi’s hidden treasures is the ground-breaking conservation work that goes on behind the scenes here.  A week would be enough time to explore the quiet (tourist wise) but beautiful national parks. Two of our favourites are Majete Wildlife Reserve and Liwonde, where conservationists have worked tirelessly to re-home hundreds of elephant and keep many species, including lion, leopard, rhino, sable and buffalo safe.  You’ll also find some of Africa’s biggest crocodiles here.  A post pandemic treat would need to combine Mkulumadzi in Majeti with Mvuu Lodge in Liwonde.

Two week holiday in Malawi
‘ Malawi was one of our best family holidays ever’, writes Alice Gully of Aardvark Safaris, who has three children.  The Malawian ‘can do’ approach to life makes driving around the country very easy and a good way to fully immerse yourself in local life. As well as the crystal blue waters of Lake Malawi and the Garden of Eden style wildlife reserves, there is plenty more to explore if you have time. The Zomba Plateau is an interesting place to visit, with Zomba Forest Lodge a characterful spot, or  head to Lujeri Lodge and climb Mt Mulanje for incredible views over the tea plantations.
