Fabulous fly and flop holiday in magical Mauritius

The last 18 months have been bumpy for international travel and, like many of our clients, we’ve also had to put the brakes on our regular recce trips to Africa and the Indian Ocean. So, when the opportunity came up for a last minute holiday to Mauritius, it was time to scratch that itch! A ‘fly and flop’ holiday wouldn’t usually be at the top of my list, but after the trials and tribulations of Covid-19, it was EXACTLY what we needed.

Sunny beach at C Mauritius

We boarded our flight to Mauritius just as the first of the snow started to fall in Scotland. Aardvark Safaris’ dedicated Covid requirements team provided us with all the guidelines needed to travel, so we were well prepared – with all the relevant forms completed before we even ventured to the airport.  The arrival process was seamless and we were greeted by wall to wall sunshine and a very friendly driver who quickly whisked us from the airport to our first hotel on the island’s east coast.

Fun, relaxed atmosphere at C Mauritius

We arrived at C Mauritius, a cool, laid-back hotel on the outskirts of Palmar, in time for breakfast. After that, a quick tour of the resort before settling in.  The brightly decorated rooms make the most of the views, with sliding doors opening onto manicured gardens and infinity swimming pool. Couples and honeymooners will love this spot.  You can be as relaxed as you wish or dip into the various activities which include paddle boarding, kite surfing or tennis. There are two restaurants, one buffet style serving an array of fresh salads, seafood and traditional Mauritian cuisine, the other a smarter à la carte restaurant with Asian fusion dishes. The staff were super attentive, nothing was too much trouble and it was the perfect stress-free start to our holiday.

Perfect spot to escape from Scotland’s first snowfall

For the next three nights we ventured north to Trou Aux Biches Beachcomber. This ‘all singing, all dancing’ resort is set in 35 hectares of tropical gardens, with six restaurants, numerous pools, complimentary kids club, six tennis courts and a vast range of watersports. Having spent our first morning relaxing into our new surroundings, we dipped in and out of an array of activities, enjoying an afternoon boating/snorkelling expedition, exploring the pristine crystal clear waters on a glass bottom boat and made the most of the calm sea to perfect our paddleboarding skills. We ate like queens and devoured Thai, Indian and Italian cuisine during our stay.  The ‘escape package’ offered by the hotel meant we didn’t need to worry about a thing, as everything was paid for in advance.

Gorgeous beach in front of Trou aux Biches

This was the ultimate mother and daughter beach flop holiday.  Typically we would opt for more of an adventure and less time  on a sun lounger, but six nights of complete R&R in sun-drenched surroundings was utter bliss. So, was the extra bit of form filling and getting a Covid test worth it? Absolutely, yes.  Go for it!
