Okaukuejo Camp

Okaukuejo Camp is located just 17km from the southern entrance of the 22,270 square kilometres Etosha National Park and on the western fringes of the famous Etosha Pan.  Etosha is famed for its numerous waterholes where a wide diversity of game can be seen. The most spectacular feature of the park is the vast, shallow salt pan, which lies in its centre, filling with water during the rainy season attracting a variety of wildlife and numerous species of birdlife.

Accommodation & Facilities
Okaukuejo is the park’s oldest rest camp and also acts as the headquarters for the park.  The camp provides accommodation to suit every need, with premier bush chalets overlooking the waterhole, double rooms and bush chalets and family chalets and a campsite.  Other facilities at Okaukuejo include a shop, restaurant, bar and swimming pool.  Overnight visitors must enter the camp by sunset.

Wildlife & Activities
The camp is famous for its floodlit waterhole, which is visited by plenty of game, especially after sunset, giving visitors to the camp the opportunity to view animals such as elephant and black rhino at close quarters from the comfort of the camp.  Hundreds of kilometres of well sign posted, good gravel roads, connect Okaukuejo with the other Etosha rest camps, waterholes and grazing grounds on the southern edges of the pan.  Only this southern section of the park has been developed for visitors, since the primary role is that of a conservation area where nature can remain undisturbed.  Okaukuejo is an excellent base from which you can explore some of these waterholes on full day game drives in either your own vehicle or on a guided game drive with one of the expert guides from the camp.
