Mowani Mountain Camp

Mowani Mountain Camp – M’wane meaning ‘Place of God’ is set in and among dramatic rock kopjes in the Twyfelfontein area of Damaraland commanding distant views over the ancient landscape. Children of all ages are welcome.

Accommodation & Facilities
There are 15 canvas and thatch rooms, including two suites – with indoor and open air bathrooms – set on platforms amongst the boulders. The rooms and suites have dome roofs imitating the boulders and giving the camp a very organic style with stunning colours and textures to match the landscape. Each tent has an en-suite bathroom to the rear, and verandah in front from which to enjoy the magnificent views.  There are two family rooms sleeping a maximum of four people that have an additional dome tent outside the main tent with two single beds in it for children. The main area has a restaurant, a bar, a plunge pool with steps skillfully carved out of the stone and beautiful viewing point from which to watch the sunset.

Eating & Sleeping
With advance warning children can have separate, earlier meal times. The chef is happy to discuss the children’s preference on your arrival and provide accordingly. For any specific dietary request please advise in advance. Babysitting is not available so parents need to be responsible for their children at all times.

Wildlife & Activities
Activities at Mowani include morning and evening nature drives and walks. Wildlife is sparse, but there are smaller antelope, very good birds and desert elephant in the area. There are also a number of areas with Bushman paintings. Excursions to the rock engravings at Twyfelfontein are also possible.

Specifically for children …
Activities are planned with the family and will be discussed between the guides, management and guests on arrival.  Children under six are not permitted on the nature drive unless a private vehicle is booked.
