Okonjima Bush Suite

Okonjima is half an hour’s drive off the main B1 road between Windhoek and Etosha, about two and a half hours from Windhoek and three and a half hours from Etosha. It is also accessible by plane, with its own airstrip. The property totals 22,000 hectares with rocky outcrops, scrubby acacia bush and some open grasslands.

Accommodation & Facilities
Okonjima Bush Suite is a stunning self-contained house with two large en-suite bedrooms, each with air-conditioning and heating. The adjoining bathrooms are very spacious, and have inside and outside showers and a big bath.  The bedrooms are set either side of a spacious living and dining area with roll up canvas sides allowing you to experience the open view to the pool and surrounding bush.

The Bush Suite has a private chef and a fully equipped kitchen, and although they are fully catered, guests staying are welcome to help themselves to food and drink whenever they like.  The Suite is fully hosted, and has a private vehicle and guide for exclusive use, and a private swimming pool.

Wildlife & Activities
Okonjima is the home to the charitable Africat Foundation, whose mission is educating farmers and the general public about the benefits of maintaining wildlife populations. Out in the bush, Africat focuses on mitigating human-wildlife conflict, while also reducing livestock losses from predation. It also serves as an educational base for school children and adults from across Namibia.  Okonjima also supports leopard research on a number of second and third generation leopards who have always lived on the property, and who are radio-collared. The activities on offer include an evening drive to track a collared leopard using telemetry and to give an insight into research programmes currently under way. Guests can actively assist with Africat’s research, by helping the guides collect and collate data. Okonjima offers guided Off the Beaten Track trails, a combination of driving and walking that is especially good for families thanks to the interactive experience on offer. Bushman paintings can be seen on interpretive walks, and several self-guided bush walks on the reserve are also available.
