Wolwedans Desert Lodge

Wolwedans Desert Lodge is nestled amidst the dunes in the heart of the NamibRand Nature Reserve in Namibia about an hour and a half’s drive from the entrance to the Sossusvlei dunes. Children of all ages are welcome.

Accommodation & Facilities
The Wolwedans Desert Lodge design is sensitive to its delicate environment with canvas walls and lots of wood, yet is still extremely comfortable. The entire main lodge and the nine individual chalets are built on stilts. Each of the private chalets is spacious with an en-suite bathroom and large veranda providing stunning views of the desert. Chalet 1 is a family suite and is made up of two bedrooms joined by a shared bathroom with a spacious deck area. Situated furthest away from the main lodge it is very private. The main complex comprises two separate buildings, home to a large bar area, dining room, library, sundowner decks, a wine cellar and a child friendly swimming pool with shallow end.

Eating & Sleeping
Guests eat together at Wolwedans and although there isn’t a children’s menu, child friendly meals are available on request. Childcare is rarely requested but available with advance warning and provided by lodge staff members.

Wildlife & Activities
Guests are encouraged to go on full day desert drives accompanied by a guide into the reserve. You can also go on guided walks in the area, and enjoy picnics in the wild and sundowners on the dunes. Scenic flights and ballooning can be arranged at an extra cost.

Note: The lodge is part of the Wolwedans Desert Academy whose goal is to introduce young people to the tourism and hospitality sector. Some of the staff are students who are finding their feet and confidence in hospitality. The service might not be 100% perfect but it will always be with the biggest of smiles and plenty of enthusiasm. There are experienced managers and senior staff to ensure that everything runs smoothly.
