Big Lagoon Camp

Big Lagoon Camp is hidden away in an ebony grove beside a big seasonal lagoon near the Luangwa River in a remote region of Zambia’s South Luangwa National Park. The lagoon was once part of the main Luangwa River, but as its course has evolved the lagoon is now mostly filled by seasonal rains.

Accommodation & Facilities
Big Lagoon Camp is part of the seasonal Chikoko River Trail walking safaris run by Remote Africa Safaris from nearby Tafika Camp. The small, intimate camp has just three chalets built from timber, thatch, and reeds, and can accommodate just six guests. The simple, comfortable rooms have open air en-suite bathrooms, and open fronts to allow guests front row views of the wildlife visiting the lagoon. The camp has a bar, lounge and dining room, plenty of outside space for meals and drinks and a viewing deck beside the lagoon.

Wildlife & Activities
Chikoko River Trails are walking safaris, and the main activities at Big Lagoon are morning and afternoon walks. Thanks to the lagoon and the open grass around it, wildlife viewing from the camp itself is also excellent, with lion, elephant, buffalo, giraffe, wild dog, leopard, roan antelope, and kudu often seen. Adventurous guests can also walk onwards to Chikoko Tree Camp from here.
