Sungani Lodge

Sungani Lodge has a lovely peaceful setting in the remote south of Zambia’s South Luangwa National Park. Overlooking a lagoon which was once the main channel of the Luangwa River, the family owned and run lodge is well hidden amongst mature trees, and is the furthest south of any camp in the Park.

Accommodation and Facilities
Sungani Lodge has eight large safari tents, one of which can accommodate a family. The tents are well spaced out and set on raised timber decks, and aligned to give guests views over the lagoon from every part of the tent. They have big air-conditioned bedrooms, lounge space, ceiling fans, en-suite bathrooms with inside and outside showers and a bath, mini-bars, a kettle and a safe, and private plunge pools on the decks outside. The lodge has a big mess tent with a lounge, bar, library, dining room and shared main pool, as well as plenty of space on the large outside deck. There is also an air-conditioned gym.

Wildlife and Activities
The wildlife population in this part of South Luangwa includes lion, leopard, wild dog, spotted hyena, buffalo, hippo, crocodile, giraffe, zebra, wildebeest, kudu, waterbuck, puku, and impala. The birdlife is astonishingly varied too with plenty of water birds as well as woodland and savannah species, and a nesting colony of carmine bee eaters nearby from August onwards. Safari activities at Sungani include day and night wildlife drives in open safari vehicles, walking safaris, and the use of several photographic hides. Professional quality photographic equipment is available to hire at the lodge.
