Coot Club

Spaced out on the shores of Klein River Lagoon, Coot Club has an idyllic setting on a private nature reserve close to Stanford and Hermanus. Just two hours from Cape Town, the lagoon sits at the foot of the Overberg Mountains, and empties into the Indian Ocean nearby. The reserve was once a farm, and has gradually reverted to natural vegetation.

Accommodation & Facilities
Coot Club is centred on a lovingly restored 19th century Georgian style house built from locally quarried limestone. Once the farm’s main residence it is now the Clubhouse, which has a bar, lounge, restaurant, and a games room. Coot Club has a mix of traditional stone cottages and contemporary boathouses, well spread out among the milkwood trees and fynbos with views over the lagoon. Three boathouses have three bedrooms and one has two. The main bedrooms have en-suite bathrooms, which the secondary bedrooms share. The wooden boathouses have well equipped kitchens, wood burning stoves, and lounges. Three of the four limestone cottages are ideal for families or groups of friends, and have space for up to four adults and five children along with kitchens, lounges, dining rooms and verandahs with barbecues. The fourth cottage has one main bedroom, a smaller kitchen and an outdoor fire pit.

Activities
Coot Club offers a number of on-site activities including paddle boarding and kayaking, fat-biking on the reserve, swimming in the lagoon or one of two pools, guided walks, Walker Bay beach sun-downers, and outdoor games. Other activities available locally include quad biking, whale watching, marine boat cruises, and spa treatments. The Hemel en Aarde wine route is close by, and easily accessed with a car.
