Meno a Kwena

Meno A Kwena tented camp is on the western boundary of the Makgadikgadi Pans National Park. The camp’s name comes from the name given to a deep stretch of the Boteti River, once inhabited by hippo and crocodiles in a garden of water lilies, which literally translated means ‘teeth of the crocodile’. Children of all ages are welcome.

Accommodation & Facilities
Accommodation at Meno a Kwena is in ten spacious walk-in tents perched on a 100 foot high clifftop overlooking the river. Classically furnished in locally woven fabrics and colonial style furniture, each tent has a safari style bucket shower and flushable toilet; which are private but not en-suite as they are a few steps away from your tent.

There is a large lounge tent with a bar and library and a natural swimming pool overlooking the river. The pool is not heated but is located so that it receives optimal sunshine throughout the day. It has a shallow end and a maximum depth of approx. 1.5m in the deep end.

Eating & Sleeping
All food is carefully prepared, with fresh ingredients and cooked over an open fire. Separate, earlier mealtimes and children’s food preferences can be accommodated and are discussed on arrival at camp.  Specific dietary requests can be accommodated with prior notice.

There is a family unit, which accommodates up to five in two separate bedroom tents connected by a walk way and common deck area.  Each tent in the family unit has its own bathroom and indoor shower and there is an outdoor shower attached to the main bedroom.

Babysitting can be organized but needs to be requested prior to arrival. A camp staff member will be able to assist by sitting with the children while the parents enjoy dinner or time around the camp fire.

Wildlife & Activities
Meno a Kwena has a lovely natural rock plunge pool which is located on the riverbank and is an excellent area for viewing wildlife visiting the waterhole below, bird watching or simply relaxing in a very peaceful atmosphere. There is also a magnificent hide, which is a great option for those who want a break from driving in fact guests often see more from the riverside than from the vehicles.

Specifically for children …
All the staff are child friendly and the guides are accustomed to keeping children interested and engaged. During game drives the guides aim to make the time out in the park fun and interactive for children and adults alike. In addition kids love the Bushman walk, the hide, and being able to run around the camp and explore in a home away from home feel.
