Angama Amboseli

Angama Amboseli is set within an acacia forest in the heart of the Kimana Sanctuary, a community-owned conservancy that fulfils a key role in the greater Amboseli ecosystem by helping create a corridor for animal migrations between the Amboseli National and the Chyulu Hills. Just 45 minutes by plane from Nairobi, the camp looks south to Kilimanjaro’s snow-capped north face.

Accommodation & Facilities
Angama Amboseli has 10 ‘tented’ suites which mix canvas, concrete and rattan, and suggest an elephant’s silhouette with their design. The bedrooms have king sized beds and floor-to-ceiling screen doors leading to a shaded seating area both of which enjoy views of Africa’s tallest mountain. The ensuite bathrooms have double vanities and indoor and outdoor showers. The camp offers indoor or outdoor dining and there is a fireplace to relax alongside with a drink. There is an art gallery, a maker’s studio and a photographic studio for creatives. The raised swimming pool features a freshwater drinking trough designed to support the resident elephant herds.

Wildlife & Activities
Amboseli and the Chyulu Hills are famous for their elephant population, particularly the large tuskers whose massive tusks are said to benefit from the mineral rich soil. Morning, afternoon and night wildlife drives on the sanctuary allow guests to get close to some of these elephants as well as eland, reedbuck, warthogs, giraffe, zebra and wildebeest, all attracted to the perennial stream, and occasionally leopard, cheetah and serval. Walking safaris are also available. A full day’s drive into the Amboseli National Park with a picnic is offered to those staying three nights providing a good chance to see lion, hippo and perhaps flamingos. Anyone interested in the management of the sanctuary, and the benefits for the community, is welcome to visit the headquarters of the Big Life Foundation.
