Ekorian’s Mugie Camp

Ekorian’s Mugie Camp (the Turkana name for the olive tree) is located near Mugie Dam on the Mugie Sanctuary. Mugie is at the northern end of the Laikipia Plateau in northern Kenya, with views to the distant Mount Kenya. Mugie Sanctuary, part of the larger Mugie ranch, extends to 22,000 acres and offers excellent opportunities for wildlife viewing and bird watching.

Accommodation & Facilities

Each one of Ekorian’s six spacious tents has private en-suite bathroom with a flush loo and a good shower. The tents have a large bedroom with attractive furniture and wooden deck floors. All have thatched roofs to help keep the heat down. The camp’s mess tent has a dining area and a comfortable lounge. It’s a great place to relax during the day, or enjoy a pre-dinner drink in the evening. The camp has a very low environmental footprint, being entirely solar powered, and using cleverly designed wood fired boilers for hot water.

Wildlife & Activities
Mugie Sanctuary is home to 70 species of mammal including lion, cheetah, leopard, buffalo, elephant, eland and hyena.  Resident endangered species include the Grevy’s zebra and Jackson’s hartebeest.  Among the numerous activities offered at Ekorian’s Mugie Camp are day and night game drives, fishing on the dam, walking safaris, visits to Samburu and Pokot communities, kayaking, camel rides, fly camping, bush meals, walks with bloodhounds, and day to day ranch activities.
