Makakatana Bay

Makakatana Bay Lodge sits on the edge of Lake St Lucia in South Africa’s iSimangaliso Wetlands, which is a World Heritage Site in the north east of KwaZulu Natal.

Accommodation & Facilities
The lodge has eight air-conditioned guest rooms built on piers in the dune forest and bush beside the lake, with spacious bedrooms and en-suite bathrooms that have inside and outside showers, flush loos, and a viewing deck and verandah at the front of each room. The lodge has a small pool, a large dining room and bar, and plenty of outside space for meals. The history of the property is made tangible in the old block building which is now the wine cellar.

Wildlife & Activities
Activities on offer at Makakatana Bay include day and night wildlife drives, boat cruises on the lake and in the wetlands, guided bush walks, day trips to explore the coast, and excellent bird watching. The iSimangaliso wetlands are rich in wildlife and the species that might be seen here include elephant, buffalo, rhino, leopard, giraffe, hippo, and crocodiles.
